There are many benefits of studying in UK for Indian and International students. UK is traditionally one of the most accepted destinations and offers a variety of courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Generally a typical UK Bachelors degree is completed in three years for courses like Arts, Business, Management, Economics, while the Engineering and some Science degrees might take 4-5 years. Most Master’s courses can be completed in 1 year’s time and MBA courses take up to 18 months. As compared to many other destinations, the cost of education is UK is relatively cheaper.  Many UK institutions offer generous scholarship to the students which make the expenses go down further. Applying to Universities

UG

The application process for studying abroad in UK is detailed and requires help. All undergraduate applications are made through UCAS (Universities and College Admission Services). A student can apply to 5 different Universities in the same application form but you can make only one application in an academic year. A nominal fee of approximately £ 23 is charged by UCAS to process applications and £ 12 if applying to just one University.

PG

As opposed to the UG courses, applicants for the postgraduate course can apply to numerous Universities. This is seen as a major benefit of studying in UK for Indian and International students. Some Universities have an application fees while other applications have no charge and most applications can be completed online.

Fees Structure

Education in UK comes at a cost. The cost of studying in UK varies from the colleges or courses that one may choose. London is of course one of the most expensive cities in terms of living and studying  However other parts of UK are relatively cheaper and in general a post graduate degree in UK costs 30% to 60% cheaper than the American equivalents. The estimated living cost per year is between 7,000 to 9,000 UK pounds.

UG Courses: £ 8000- £ 15,000 per year

PG Courses: £ 10,000- £ 18,000 per year

MBA: £10,000- £ 20,000 per year

Living Expenses

London and places near London: £ 8000- £ 10,000 per year

Other Places: £ 6,500- £8,000 per year

 

Scholarships

The cost of living and studying in UK is high and that is why when we talk about the benefits of studying in UK for Indian and International students, scholarships do play a major role.  Most UK Universities are government funded which leaves them with limited funds to offer scholarships and bursaries to international students. However there are still many universities that offer some amount of scholarships to students with excellent academic and professional background. There are also some departmental scholarships offered to students with exceptional credentials. There are also some government aided scholarships available but these are highly competitive and offered in a limited capacity, hence the applications should be made well in advance.

Part-time work

Students studying in the UK can work part-time and earn well to cover their living costs. During the course of full time study, a student is allowed to work part-time for 20 hours per week and during vacations a student can work full time for 40 hours per week. Students can search for jobs in magazines, newspapers, campus placement cells and on social media. Many students work part-time on campus, departmental stores or restraints. Students are usually paid about £5-£7 per hour and can easily earn up to £500 per month.

Accommodation

All international students are guaranteed on-campus accommodation by most of the universities during their first year of study. Mostly there are three types of accommodations that are offered in UK: on-campus, off-campus and home stay or private flats.

Visa Guidelines

Student visa is relatively easy to obtain once a student gets admission in a UK University. The Tier 4 visa is granted based on PBS (Point Based System) evaluated on 40 points. You attain 30 points as soon as you receive the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) from the University you get admitted to and 10 points are towards Maintenance Funds.
