Requirements such as standardized testing and English language testing vary for different applicants. Review information specific to you to find out about special requirements or steps you need to take:
- International applicants.
Submitting Standardized Tests. SAT, ACT, and IB results are not the only way to satisfy your standardized testing requirement. You can also take a regional or national exam.Indian students may submit one of the following:- Indian School Certificate (ISC)
- All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE)
- Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC)Other state examinations may be considered on request
Language Proficiency Testing Policy. If English is not your native language, you may be asked to show your proficiency by taking one of the following tests (results must be from the last two years):
- TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test)
- IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System)
- PTE Academic (Pearsons Test of English Academic)
- CAE or CPE (Cambridge English: Advanced or Proficiency)
Financing your Education. Financial aid is available only for incoming freshman and not available for transfer applicants. If you are admitted you must submit a certification of finances showing you’ll be able to fund your four years of study.
Depending on your status, here are some things to plan for:
- Fill out the NYU Application for Certificate of Eligibility (AFCOE) online after you’re admitted to the university and pay your enrollment deposit. Submit supporting documents as well. This must be done before you’re issued a student visa (Form I-20) or exchange visitor visa (Form DS-2019).
- If you expect to use savings, parental support, outside private or government scholarships, or any combination of these to finance your studies, you’ll need to send official letters or similar certificates as proof of such support. Include your name and date of birth on each document.
- If you’re in the U.S. at the time of your admission, you’ll need to submit a copy of your I-94 card.
- Students who hold a F-1 or J-1 student visa are generally not allowed to work in the U.S. to help pay for their education and are required to pursue a full-time course load each semester.
- The review process. Admissions officers personally review every application. There are no formulas to making admissions decisions; NYU seeks a mix of students who have a variety of interests, talents, and goals. There is also no maximum number of students they can admit.
- Checking your application status. Within three weeks of the application deadline, NYU will let you know that they have received your application and give you information about how to track your status.
- Missing Materials. NYU offers a (limited) window to submit anything that might be missing from your application.
- Original Documents. Please submit only documents or copies that you can replace because NYU does not return application documents.
- Equal Opportunity. NYU prohibits any form of discrimination in the admission process.
- Invited visits to Abu Dhabi and Shanghai campuses. If NYU is strongly considering you for NYU Abu Dhabi and/or NYU Shanghai, we may invite you to meet with students, faculty, and administrators on campus. Please note that you cannot request an invitation to these special visits.
- Interviews. NYU occasionally invites candidates to interview online (not on campus). NYU will contact you if you are invited. Applicants cannot request interviews.
- Supplementary materials. Please only send supplementary materials (DVDs, pictures, articles, etc.) If you are applying to a program that requires an audition or portfolio.
- Applicants with a previous criminal conviction. Please review the admission philosophy and process.
